One of the very first things the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders did this year in art was create their very own sketchbook!
What is a sketchbook you ask?
Sketchbooks are a very important part of the artistic process. We discussed how sketchbooks are a place to store our ideas, visually brainstorm, take notes, and practice the skills and techniques we learn in art class. Sketchbooks are great to look back at as a visual representation of our growth as an artist.
Our sketchbooks will be safely stored in the art room at all times. We are fortunate enough to have table lockers at our workstations where each class is responsible for storing their sketchbooks. At the end of the school year, students will be able to bring them home!
Students worked very hard creating personalized covers for their sketchbooks. We talked about how to make block/bubble letters and how we can use contour lines (ghost lines, copy cat lines) to add interest around our letters.
